Assignment #11 Film Review: Seven
The film "Seven" staring Brad Pitt and Morgan freeman is easily one of the best films that I have ever seen. I can say that the beginning of the film is quite dull and boring but as it progresses, it gets more entertaining and enjoyable. Towards the end, I found myself on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next, I found that the end of the film was the best part. It was filled with action, suspense and excitement. As I previously mentioned, the beginning (the first 45 minutes or so) is probably the worst part of the film. It is so boring but important for the plot of the film. I quite enjoyed Morgan Freeman's acting. I found that he was quite calm and collected instead of Brad Pitt's acting which I found quite frustrating but I know it is important for the film. As well, any film with Kevin Spacey get good ratings in my books. I absolutely love Kevin Spacey's acting. He is a an amazing actor. Being so concentrated on the plot and acting, I hardly noticed the music. I found the special effects (especially the gun fight scene) was very well done.
I find that the "what's in the box?" really adds to the suspense and is really an element of classic Hollywood as it has been featured in various films. In many different films, you see this concept and it is considered a serious element of suspense in films. I would definitely consider this as classic Hollywood and would 100% recommend this to a friend,

Assignment #10 Film review: The Minority Report
The film "The Minority Report" shows what the future of crime solving is across the world. Unfortunately, the style of policing in "The Minority Report" provides many ethical issues especially with an individual's 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th amendment rights relating to privacy. The movie has received lots of amazing reviews from critics and what has helped the film with these reviews is the mise en scène used by the directors.
One of the biggest elements of mise en scène featured in "The Minority Report" was the props seen in the film especially in the "PreCrime" unit at the police station. In the film, we were able to see technology that has yet to be invented. The ball machine that etches the names of both the victim and the accused before the crime is even committed is quite neat. As a bit of a "tech geek", I was quite impressed by the computers that could be controlled by human actions eliminating the need for mice. We are seeing this technology on newer gaming systems and I expect that we will soon see this technology come to computers and phones. The city wide iris ID system is would eliminate the need to carry around a drivers licence, credit card or passport in the future. This is something that is slowly being rolled out across the world. I feel that this could be concerning as companies could get a hold of this data and could start marketing products in individualised ways to us, We were able to see this in the film with the personalised ads. In my opinion, we will see so many elements from the technology in "The Minority Report" in our societies within the next few decades and unfortunately, nobody knows what the effects of it will be.

Assignment #9 Film Review: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Ferris Bueller's Day Off is arguably one of the most iconic American films that has ever been made. I really enjoyed this watching this film! I found that the plot quite intresting but not extremely realistic, which I would argue adds to the enjoyment of the film. I found the parade scene and the office scene to be the funniest parts of the entire film. I can say that the casting of Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller was a wonderful choice. He definitely brings a certain perspective to the role that many others couldn't. I found that the music helped to move the plot along at a faster pace and may have even added to the enjoyment of the film. The special effects (especially with the Ferrari 250) were quite enjoyable and definitely advanced for the decade that the movie was made in. That being said however, being a low key car guy, I was a little bit upset at the destruction of a really nice car.
This film is well noted for breaking down the so called "fourth wall" which allow the viewer to almost be a part of the experience. This was done by having the actors tell the audience what they think, feel or believe at real time. I do think that this was well done and this can be seen in the bedroom scenes as we are able to follow Ferris' thoughts as he plots skipping school. This movie helps to illustrate the difficulties of being a teenager especially one who is about to graduate high school and go off into the real world. Being someone at this age, I can definitely say that life seems to go by so quickly. It seems like yesterday that I started high school and in less then 45 days, I will be graduating. The quote "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. " really shows that you need to take some time to experience life or you will be regretting not doing it. Yes I do agree that this movie can be considered classic Hollywood as it features a great plot and it helps to break down the "fourth wall". I would 100% recommend this film to all my friends!

Assignment #8 Conventions in Genre: Dr. No
The original film in the iconic James Bond series Dr. No , embodies all the elements of an action/ romance film. Upon observing one of the 2oth century's most iconic film posters, one sees Sean Connery in the traditional James Bond position with the gun drawn. This image of 007 (especially with his gun brandished) helps to indicate that this is an action film. However, featured on the poster directly beside Bond are four of the female characters in various states of undress. These images may help to indicate that the film has many romantic elements. After watching the trailer, the idea of this film being an action/ romance film are solidified. The trailer shows multiple fight and gun battle scenes as well as multiple "sexual" scenes which help to reinforce my belief that this is a cross over of an action and a romance film.
Dr. No is one of the most iconic James Bond films that have ever been made. I really enjoyed the film. Being a history geek, I enjoyed seeing all the older colonial aspects of Jamaica as the film was shot before Jamaica became an independent nation. Jamaica is a very interesting place to see and being able to experience a bit of what it used to be like was quite cool. The acting was also very well done. Connery and Andress were spectacular. I found the "Three Blind Mice" really neat. It is kind of cool how they are able to disguise the factor that they are actually deadly murders instead of poor beggars. I have seen many James Bond films but this might be my new favourite. I can definitely say that the film matched the way that it was promoted. The film contained an ample amount of gun shootouts, car chases and bar fights. This movie features my absolute favourite car destruction scene of any movie I have ever scene in the accident killing the "Three Blind Mice". Given the factor this film was filmed before Jamaican independence and was released the same year (1962), it is really quite impressive. As well, there was a lot of romance and promiscuous scenes in this movie especially with Miss Taro (Assistant at Government House and one of Dr. No's agents) and Honey Ryder (Andress). It could easily be said that in this film, James Bond knows how to get around. Its also quite intresting to see how sexual activities are used to gain valuable information which seems a little stereotypical of a spy thriller. I can definitely say that the promoters did a wonderful job in promoting this classic movie. I can honestly say that I really liked this film and it is probably one of my favourite Bond films.

Assignment #7 Film review: The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank redemption is one of a select group of iconic American movies that can be deemed as "classic". I was quite impressed with the film. I found that the film was very well done and was quite impressed with the acting; especially of Morgan Freeman. In my opinion, the escape scene is the best part of this film. The factor that Andy had been planning and digging for 19 years was quite impressive. What is even more impressive is that he did all that without getting caught. As well, "after escape" bit inducing Andy's visit to the bank, the arrest of Captain Hadley and the death of warden Norton was very well done. I also must admit that Andy's money laundering scheme was impressive. I found the acting by all characters was well done. as I mentioned earlier, Morgan Freeman's acting was amazing! he truly is a wonderful actor. I found that the music and special effects (especially the escape scene) helped to give the movie a more eerie feel; like one would expect to find in a prison.
In my opinion, the movie gives an interesting look into life "on the inside". While it originally wasn't popular, it has gained significant notoriety recently. I believe that this could be due to the astonishingly high levels of incarceration in the United States as well as ongoing race difficulties south of the border. The quote "get busy living, or get busy dying" is perfectly demonstrated in this film. While we don't notice it at first, Andy spends his time at Shawshank prison plotting his grand escape. If he hadn't been busy planning on how to get out and avoid detection, who knows what would have happened to him. I think this film perfectly shows that expression. I do believe that this film could be considered "Classic Hollywood" due to the suburb acting and the historical plot. I do believe that this film will still be relevant in thirty years as it is a truly significant film for Morgan Freeman and I believe the plot is one of the best that has ever been shot! 100% I would recommend this movie to a friend!

Assignment #6 Television analyst: Modern Family
The classic American sitcom "Modern Family" follows the lives of members of the Pritchett- Dunphy- Tucker clan as they go about their day- to- day lives. The series is primarily centered around Jay Pritchett; the family patriarch. He spent over 4o years as a so called "tycoon" in California's high priced closet industry. Jay is on his second marriage with Gloria (nee Delgado) and has three kids, Claire, Mitchell and Joe (with Gloria). Gloria also has a son, Manny through her first marriage. When Jay retired, his daughter Claire took over as president of his company. She married local realtor Phil Dunphy and they have three kids; Hailey, Alex and Luke. Jay's other son; Mitchell is a local environmental lawyer. Mitchell is gay and he is married to Cam; a gym teacher and clown enthusiast from small town Missouri. Together, they have an adopted daughter named Lily.
"Modern Family" helps to break down the stereotypes facing families. The show rejects the "two parents and 2 1/2 kids" concept. The show embraces multi- racial and families with different sexual orientations. Cameron and Mitchell's relationship helps to breakdown barriers surrounding LGBTQ2+ relationships and many would argue that their relationship has helped to normalise non-heterosexual relationships in society. As well, the show has helped to normalise inter-racial families in American society. As two of the shows principal characters are not Caucasian and are members of a Caucasian family, viewers are exposed to families of different races and cultures,

Assignment #5 Movie Review: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a very iconic American movie staring Harrison Ford and Karen Allen. In my opinion, the movie is probably the most iconic in the series. I enjoyed it way more then I enjoyed "Breakfast at Tiffany's". I was quite interested in the historical plot in the film and I even did a little research on the ark of the covenant after watching the film. This historical part was, in my opinion, the best part of the film. The scene at the landing strip was quite interesting as well as I it was very action packed and probably had the best special effects in the entire movie. Unfortunately however, was a little disappointed with the pyrotechnics and stunts in the film however it could be just that I have seen more modern effects. Harrison Ford's iconic whip and fedora are iconic to the role of Indiana Jones as it gives Ford's character a unique identity. Other elements including the theme music that is played every time Jones gets into an interesting situation, adds to the unique identity that is Indiana Jones.
In my opinion, this could be considered classic Hollywood as it really helped to solidify an iconic franchise. Indiana Jones is one of Hollywood's best series and this was the film that started it all. Ford's character has been engrained in the minds of kids across the world and has also inspired many people to explore the field of geology as they can follow Indiana's path. I do believe that this still will be relevant in thirty years as Indiana Jones is an iconic series and this was the film that started it all. People who enjoy action and adventure films would be interested in this film even years down the road. I would absolutely recommend this move to a friend or colleague! Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is a historic action film that has been enjoyed by many and will continue to be enjoyed by many for years to come. (4,5 out of 5)

Assignment #4 Advertising Detective: American Airlines
*Disclaimer: The following is article decoding the American Airlines' brand. Any preferences or opinions expressed in the following article are my own and are not paid for by American Airlines and/or the One World airlines alliance.
American Airlines is one of America's oldest and famous airlines. Founded in 1936, the airline has experienced many significant changes and mergers; the most famous being in 2015 when the airline merged with US Airways to create one of the largest airlines in the world. American Airlines flies to over 300 destinations across the world and has a fleet of over 900 aircraft. American Airlines prides itself on safety, quality, efficiency and national pride and this is evident in the airlines' brand.
The image that we associate most with American Airlines is the iconic logo. American Airlines' logo features an airline tail with an eagle and the colours red, white and blue. The colours show the passion they have for the United States, as red, white and blue are the "American Colours". As well, the blue helps to calm prospective passengers while the red shows the passion that they have for what they do. As well, the eagle on the logo adds to the pride that the company has for America as the eagle is the national animal of the United States and can been seen on the Great Seal of the United States. Many people have compared the logo to a plane flying.
In it's 86 year history, American Airlines has had many different advertising campaigns however one of the more recent campaigns shows the quality and luxury of the brand. The advertisement is called "Worlds Greatest Fliers". The advertisement features tips and tricks that frequent travellers use to make their travels easier. At the end, the message "The worlds greatest fliers, fly American" appears on the screen. This shows that the best fliers are those that travel American and American's passengers are the best. As well, many luxury products are featured in this advertisement. This shows that American is somewhat of a luxury brand.
When it comes to travel, there are many different options. American Airlines uses it's brand to show why it is considered one of the best airlines in the world and why millions of passengers choose American every year.

Assignment #3 Film Critique: Breakfast at Tiffany's
Breakfast at Tiffany's is an iconic American film staring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. In my opinion, the film stands up to the term "classic". I quite enjoyed this film. In my opinion, the characters of Holly and Paul were very well played by Hepburn and Peppard. I found that the plot of the movie helped to reinforce the need for Holly to find herself. I would say that both Hepburn and Peppard did a wonderful job in the playing of their characters. I believe that there unique personalities and twists helped to developed the characters of Holly and Paul respectfully. without Hepburn's and Peppard's unique personalities, the characters they played would not be as iconic as they are today. I found the scene with (as the youth call them) the ragger was quite similar to many raggers in this day in age. While watching that scene, I couldn't help but recall to posts I have seen on Instagram and snap chat stories of raggers that were nearly identical to that. I however, have never had first hand experience and hope to not have that experience. I was also quite impressed by the scene after Holly and the wealthy José da Silva Pereira started dating. Holly changed her life around to fit José's lavish lifestyle. She began to embrace Brazilian culture including attempting to learn Portuguese; the main language of Brazil. Whilst I disagree on the idea of changing your personality because of a partner or love interest, I was quite impressed at her efforts to learn a very complex language. I certainly would like to try at some point in my life. I can say that I certainly was not impressed with Micky Rooney's portrayal of Mr. I. Y. Yunioshi. While Rooney's acting was quite well done, I found the factor that they chose to cast a caucassian actor to play a Japanese character quite racist. While I understand that it was a different time period, I still found it quite deplorable. If I was in charge of the casting or the directing of this film, I would have had a different actor play Mr. I. Y, Yunioshi simply as it would not have been as controversial.
In my opinion, Audrey Hepburn has forever been linked to this role due to the iconic story and the role Hepburn played. As mentioned above, Hepburn played Holly in a very unique way. A way that nobody else could be able to play. Due to Hepburn's unique style, many people have attempted to mimic Hepburn. However, they often times fail at this as they do not have Hepburn's signature personality that really gives the role of Holly it's specialness. I definitely agree that this is considered classic Hollywood due to it's unique story and the roles of Holly and Paul and they way that they are played. In fact, the Library of Congress deemed the film as "culturally historic".
I absolutely believe that this film will be relevant in 30 years. I believe that the acting of Hepburn and Peppard help to make this film so unique. The idea of finding out who one is and what there role is, is an idea that spans from generation to generation and will still be existence in 30 years. Without a doubt, I would recommend this film to a friend. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one and will remain one of the most iconic American film's for generations to come. (4.2 out of 5)

(4.2 out of 5)
Assignment #2 Pop Culture of a Certain Decade: The 1950's
The 1950's were a very influential and important time in modern history. The constant rivalry between the United States of America and the Soviet Union heavily dominated the lives of nearly everyone across the globe. The 1950's are often considered the debut of the rock and roll age. This "new culture" drastically changed the lives of youth as it gave many of them a new form of entertainment that had not existed before. One of the effects of this however, was the increased influence of drugs, alcohol and sex on youth. Many of the most iconic films were filmed during this decade. These include Singing in the Rain (1952), 12 Angry Men (1957), Strangers on a Train (1951) and Guys and Dolls (1955). In terms of literature, famous books and plays including The Catcher in the Rye (J.D. Salinger), Lord of the Flies (William Golding), Charlotte's Web (E.B. White), The old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway) and Waiting for Godot (Samuel Beckett) were written during this time. During this time, inventions including the charge card, the television, the "Chevrolet Corvette", the laser and the pacemaker helped changed the lives of ordinary civilians. However, the most influential invention of the 1950's was sputnik. Sputnik was the first satellite ever launched into space. It was launched on the 4th of October 1957 by the Soviet Union. Sputnik changed the face of history as it started a serious conversation of space exploration and took the space race to a whole new level. During the 1950's, trends were mainly influenced by television, film and music. Many youth would attempt to imitate one or more of their favourite television stars or musicians. As well, many teenagers used fashion to rebel against the older generation. While many of the youth were expected to dress like older generations, many rebelled and explored new fashion styles including dark clothes (both guys and girls) and vibrant skirts (girls). The fifties also allowed for the emergence of many new forms of "slang". Many of these forms are still in use today. These include "Beat" (tired or exhausted), "Crib" (pad/ place), "Sharp" (fashionable) and "Take Five" (take a break). For many youth, the 1950's was filled with many role models for those growing up during the decade. Actors include Bing Crosby, Clint Eastwood, Audrey Hepburn, Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor. Musicians include Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Jimmy Nelson and Dolly Parton. Athletes include Yogi Berra, Gordie Howe, Maurice Richard and Jackie Robinson. For those like me who are inspired by politicians, national leaders in the 1950's include Juan Peron (Argentina), Louis St. Laurent (Canada), John Diefenbaker (Canada), Lester B. Pearson (Canada), Mao Zedong (People's Republic of China), General Charles de Gaulle (France), Eamon de Valera (Ireland), Sir Winston Churchill (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), General Dwight D. Eisenhower (United States of America) and Josip Broz Tito (Yugoslavia). To many, the 1950's could be considered a calm in between the two big storms of World War II and the Vietnam War. However, the 1950's could be seen as a time of hope and change for many. The 1950's will continue to have an impact on our society for years to come.

Assignment #1: YouTube Channel: Casey Neistat
Casey Neistat is an American YouTube personality and Entrepreneur. He was born on March 25th 1981 in the American State of Connecticut. Neistat is well known for his film and television career, his YouTube channel, and his media company "beme". Recently, he sold his company to media giant CNN for twenty five million dollars. While Neistat attempts to keep many modern political issues out, he has expressed some of his personal views in his videos. During the recent presidential election, Neistat publicly acknowledged his support for the Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton. Neistat does hold "left leaning" views including being pro- same sex marriage. This is shown by his gay pride flag in his New York office. Neistat does not have a "defined" audience however, many people are attracted to his video's because of his travels. Neistat is a frequent traveller and often documents the experiences that he has. Neistat's videos generally don't have a defined topic. They document many of the experiences that he faces on a daily bases and often recounts to previous memories. Neistat has been filming for over a decade and many of his previous footage is featured in his videos. As this is such a factor in his videos, his method of showing the "topic" best on film. Neistat is heavily active on social media which does allow him to deliver his topic to the audience. Neistat is very careful not to cross the line between documenting his life and compromising the privacy of his family. Neistat often omits his young daughter Francine. This is to protect her privacy and allow her to have a normal life when she is older. However, Neistat is very open about elements of his personal life; both past and present. Neistat offers a voice to many people who may feel that they both have a voice and who do not have one. He often expresses the voice of the younger generation. As mentioned above, Neistat holds "left leaning" views and he does often sympathise with those of similar values. One group that Neistat often doesn't advocate for are older members of society. This might be due to Neistat's age or way of life. Neistat is a live in the now person and he displays this message in his videos. I absolutely agree with Neistat's message of living in the now and not letting life struggles drag you down.
